About
I am Arthur Stoor. I am a “stoorie fit”, or “dusty foot”, a dust stained traveller arriving in an unfamiliar place after a long trek, a stranger seeking solace.
I’m not really from anywhere in particular. I had a peripatetic family, and a widely dispersed extended family, so never quite felt at home in any one specific place. I never quite adopted one accent before I had to start on the next. It was not just a geographical lack of place in the world either. I was an unbaptised heathen in the midst of devout religious communities. I felt too working class to fit in with the middle classes, and too middle class to fit in with the working class. I was second best at many things, but never the best at any. You get the picture. Always an outsider it seemed, never quite fitting in. Hence the “stoorie fit”.
These are some of my stories - stories from the stoorie fit.
They are speculative fiction, about things which might happen or are within the bounds of possibility. They try to touch upon the human condition, more about alienation than aliens.
I hope you enjoy.
